Shenandoah Caverns

Shenandoah Caverns is one of Virginia’s most beloved natural attractions, offering visitors a breathtaking underground experience filled with stunning rock formations and geological wonders. In addition to the caverns, the destination features several unique attractions, including American Celebration on Parade, Main Street of Yesteryear, and the Yellow Barn. With a long-standing history and appeal to families, tour groups, and travelers from around the world, Shenandoah Caverns needed a modern online presence to match its rich, in-person experience.

What Was the Problem?

The Challenge

Although Shenandoah Caverns remained a top destination in the region, its digital experience was falling behind. The existing website was visually outdated, difficult to navigate, and lacked cohesion across the brand’s multiple attractions and venues. Additionally, the ticketing process was clunky for users and frustrating for staff to manage.

The client approached Nexus Box with three key objectives:

Modernize the website

with a visually rich, engaging design that would better showcase the natural beauty of the caverns and surrounding attractions.

Improve usability and navigation,

making it easier for potential visitors to explore available experiences, find hours, pricing, and plan their visit.

Simplify the ticketing experience,

reducing friction in the purchase process and giving the admin team better tools for managing sales and customer data.
With nearby cavern attractions upgrading their digital presence, Shenandoah Caverns needed to remain competitive, enhance customer satisfaction, and streamline their internal processes—all through a new web platform.

How We Solved It

Our Approach & Solution

Nexus Box approached the project holistically, rethinking the information architecture, integrating improved technology, and delivering a design that reflects the grandeur and uniqueness of Shenandoah Caverns.

Website Structuring and Organization

We began by restructuring the entire website layout. Each attraction was given its own dedicated page with sub-navigation, ensuring that Shenandoah Caverns, American Celebration on Parade, Main Street of Yesteryear, and The Yellow Barn were clearly separated yet part of a cohesive experience. Visitors can now easily find directions, ticketing info, FAQs, and venue rental options without confusion.

Modern Visual Design

Using high-resolution imagery of the caverns and attractions, we built a modern, immersive design that reflects the magic of the underground world. The updated layout includes large visual sections, intuitive calls to action, and a responsive design for mobile and tablet users.

Ticketing System Integration

We replaced the legacy system with Tickera, a modern ticketing plugin that supports easy online purchases and event management. Customers can now buy tickets for multiple attractions in a seamless process, while the admin team benefits from simplified order tracking and reporting.

Enhanced User Experience (UX)

The new navigation system makes it easier for guests to move through the site, whether they’re researching cavern tours or booking an event. The layout is built around user flows that guide customers from discovery to purchase with minimal clicks and friction.

Custom Pages and Marketing Support

We built custom pages for seasonal events and group bookings, providing flexibility for the team to update promotions, add temporary offerings, and create landing pages for ads and SEO campaigns.
