Retrotec
- JavaScript, LAMP, Magento 2, Mollie, php
Retrotec is a global leader in manufacturing precision air measurement equipment for building performance testing. Their products are used by engineers, energy auditors, and researchers around the world. With a strong presence in both North American and European markets, Retrotec needed a modern, secure e-commerce platform that could serve multiple regions seamlessly while maintaining platform stability and security.
What Was the Problem?
The Challenge
Retrotec’s website was running on an outdated version of Magento 2, which introduced several issues affecting both functionality and security:

Checkout Failure

Minimal Disruption
The outdated Magento core left the site open to potential security threats.

Broken Multi-Storefront Configuration
- Incorrect currency displays
- Unsupported or mismatched payment gateways
- Lack of region-specific content and product visibility
- Confusing navigation for international users
How We Solved It
Our Approach & Solution
Nexus Box delivered a multi-phase solution focused on stability, localization, and conversion optimization.
Magento Core Upgrade
We began by upgrading Magento to the latest secure version, which offered:
- Modern PHP compatibility
- Security patches and performance enhancements
- Long-term stability
- Future extensibility
All custom modules and themes were audited and refactored where necessary to ensure compatibility with the new core.
Multi-Storefront Localization Fixes
We repaired and enhanced the multi-store architecture to ensure each storefront delivered the correct user experience. Specific improvements included:
- GeoIP Detection: Integrated automatic geolocation-based redirection to send users to the appropriate regional storefront (e.g., US vs. EU).
- Localized Content & Currency: Ensured that each storefront displayed correct product details, pricing, tax rules, and legal notices relevant to the user’s location.
- Improved Admin Controls: Streamlined the backend management of regional store views for easier product and order management.
Payment Gateway Integration by Region
To ensure seamless and secure checkout across different regions, we implemented region-specific payment methods:
- Authorize.net was configured for the North American storefront.
- Mollie was integrated for the European storefront, supporting a wide range of EU payment methods like SEPA, iDEAL, and Bancontact.
These updates not only fixed the checkout flow but also improved payment success rates and regional trust signals.
Site Stability and Performance
In parallel with the functionality upgrades, we audited the site for bottlenecks and made optimizations to improve page load speed and backend responsiveness, creating a better experience for both customers and administrators.
